Term 1

PNEUMATICS

We carried out an experiment to show that air exists before using balloons, tubing and syringes to show that air can be moved from one place to another and create energy.

We then had great fun designing and making our own balloon jets to see which group’s would fly the longest distance. Leah, Rebekah and Rachel were the winners! 👏🏻👏🏻

BRIGHT SPARKS!

As part of our topic on electricity we investigated how to make circuits, switches, conductors and insulators and different types of circuits. We really enjoyed taking part in all the activities!

ENERGY

We began our new topic on energy by looking at electricity and sorting objects into ‘Mains Electricity’ and ‘Battery Powered’.

P7H Enjoy Coding Using SCRATCH.

P7 VICTORIAN DAY

To conclude their topic on Victorian Times the P7 pupils enjoyed a ‘Victorian Day’ delivered by the Active Learning Company on Friday 19th November. The pupils had opportunities to learn more about life when Victoria was Queen. They learnt about the lives of the rich and the poor, Victorian clothes, schools and games. The day finished with the children working in groups to make a short animated movie about an accident in a coal mine. The pupils had to plan each scene and use the characters which they’d made out of plasticine to take individual photographs using the iPad before using iMovie to make a short film.

‘ONE KIND WORD’

P7H continued the theme of Anti-Bullying week by emphasising the fact that once something is said it cannot be taken back. To demonstrate this we wrote some unkind words in shaving foam. We soon realised that it was impossible to get the foam back into the can in the same way that hurtful words are very hard to take back.

We later thought about ‘Helping Hands’ and who we could ask for help if someone was upsetting us.

The next day we discussed how we should behave in various scenarios to prevent bullying.

ANTI-BULLYING WEEK 15th-19th NOVEMBER.

ODD SOCK DAY

P7H celebrate their differences by showing off their odd socks during a PE lesson with IFA Coach Caitlin.

THE WOODPECKER

The boys and girls in P7 work in groups to discuss the poem ‘The Woodpecker’ by Ted Hughes. They then had to think of questions which they would ask the poet before assessing the quality of the questions set by another group.

LEAF CLASSIFICATION

P7H use iPads to carry out research and identify the leaves which they found on their scavenger hunt in the forest.

UNDER THE HAWTHORN TREE

Pupils work together in groups of four to devise questions about their class novel. The questions all had to have a different starter eg who, what, where, when, how, why. The children really enjoyed getting another group to answer their questions!

RESEARCHING VICTORIAN INVENTIONS

HOT SEATING

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert are in the ‘hot seats’ to answer questions about themselves!

KIDZ BIZ

P7H work in pairs to design a website page for children based on Science and amazing inventions.

FOREST SCHOOL - A LEAF SCAVENGER HUNT

OUR CLASS DEBATE

We planned and organised a debate in class based on the motion ‘The Internet has made the world a better place’. The class was divided into two teams and a person from each team took it it turns to put across their point of view. It was important that everyone listened to and respected each other’s opinions.

WORKING WITH OTHERS

P7H developed their group work skills when they had to sort and classify inventions as part of their Literacy topic.

NUMBER GENERATORS

We practised adding and subtracting up to two decimal places using number generators.

⚽️ KEEPING FIT ⚽️
P7H practise their football skills with IFA coach Andy Hardy.

SMOKEBUSTERS

On Friday 1st October we took part in a Smokebusters zoom meeting to learn about the dangers of smoking. We also made up some role play situations to show each other how to say ‘no’ if someone offers us a cigarette.

DRAMA ABOUT AMAZING INVENTIONS!

We talked about a lot of different inventions before working in groups to plan a role play drama. Each group had to act out what life was like before the invention and then how people’s lives were changed after the invention.

AMAZING INVENTIONS

Our new topic in Literacy is all about ‘Amazing Inventions’. We enjoyed using the interactive white board to try and guess what different inventions were from just seeing a small part of the picture of them. We were very good at it!

VICTORIAN PROJECTS

Pupils enjoyed spending time researching various topics for their Victorian Projects using the iPads.

P7H practise the strategy of partitioning to develop their mental maths skills.

FUN IN THE FOREST

Under The Hawthorn Tree

P7H pupils work together in groups to dramatise a scene from Under the Hawthorn Tree.

Penny the Puppy

Miss Herron was delighted to welcome a new ‘pupil’ to the classroom!

SUNFLOWERS

The boys and girls in P7H looked closely at the paintings of sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh before drawing their own sunflowers using chalk.
