WAU-  SPACE

The P7 pupils and teachers were delighted to welcome Ms K Uddin, one of the science teachers from City of Armagh High School, and two former pupils to help them carry out a fair test during Science Week. The pupils had previously discovered that astronauts wear nappies when they are in their space suits and they thought that it would be interesting to find out which nappy is the most absorbent.
We all had a great morning carrying out the investigation and discovered that the most absorbent nappy was Sainsbury’s own brand. We think that NASA should ask them to help out when making nappies for their astronauts!! 🧑‍🚀🚀

A huge thank you to Ms Uddin and her pupils for coming to help us with our science.

FOREST SCHOOL

We continued our study of camouflage by building homes for small animal like mice, hedgehogs, foxes and rabbits. We also enjoyed some free time to play.

ROMEO AND JULIET

As part of our study of Romeo and Juliet we completed a ‘conscience alley’ to see if Juliet should drink the sleeping potion. If she drinks the potion she will not have to marry Paris but wait for her true love, Romeo, to find her.

📕📗📘📙 WORLD BOOK DAY 📙📘📗📕

We made book markers to celebrate World Book Day.

WORLD BOOK DAY- THE AMAZING JOURNEY

To celebrate World Book Day former Hardy teacher, James Robinson, visited us with ‘The Amazing Journey’ and we learnt about the story of Paul in the Bible. We also had the opportunity to taste food similar to what was eaten in biblical times and to dress up in costumes.

WAU- SPACE

Can you recognise any of the constellations we made using mini marshmallows and spaghetti?

FOREST SCHOOL

We played a game of ‘Birds and Worms’ in the forest to explore camouflage. The worms hid pieces of different coloured wool for the birds to find. The worms found some of the pieces of wool but not all! We discussed why some colours were easier to find in the forest than others.

TITANIC BELFAST

On Monday 26th of February P7H enjoyed a visit to Titanic Belfast following their work based on their WAU topic about Titanic. We visited the slipways where Titanic and Olympic were built and had a tour of the Nomadic before having a guided tour of the main Titanic exhibition. We all had good fun on the ship yard ride and viewed some very special artefacts- a life vest and a deck chair from Titanic and the violin owned by Wallace Hartley, the band leader on Titanic.

KEEPING FIT IN FOREST SCHOOL

P7 pupils were asked to design and build a piece of exercise equipment using natural materials in the forest. The children really enjoyed building their pieces of equipment and then trying them out! 🏋🏼‍♀️🤾🏼‍♂️⛹🏼‍♀️

SAFER INTERNET DAY

We used NewsDesk to focus on using the Internet safely before completing a quiz about making the correct choices.

FLOATING AND SINKING

Pupils worked in groups to design a fair test to see which shape of ‘hull’ would hold the most weight. The hulls were made out of tinfoil and one penny coins were added one at a time to see how many could be added before the ‘ship’ would sink. We all really enjoyed this investigation! 🚢

TITANIC- DIAMOND RANKING

We used the Diamond Ranking Strategy to look at statements from some people circa 1912 to decide which ones would make us believe ‘The Titanic is unsinkable’.

PDMU

Jeannie Graham is visiting the Primary Seven classes each Thursday for five weeks to talk to the pupils about the dangers of smoking, alcohol and drug abuse.
When Jeannie talked about the danger of drinking too much alcohol, we all tried wearing ‘beer goggles’ to show how much your judgement would be impaired.

PNEUMATICS

Pupils investigated air in tubes and how air could be moved from one place to another to do work. We finished our investigations by looking at air in syringes.

TITANIC- FACTS AND OPINIONS

Following ‘Think, Pair, Share’ work, pupils worked together to highlight facts and opinions from texts about the Titanic.

TANGRAMS

We had great fun in maths trying to solve tangram puzzles using seven flat sided polygons. Later we made our own tangram animals.

DESIGNING AND MAKING BALLOON JETS

Pupils in P7H have been looking at air as a source of energy. They were given the task of designing and making a balloon jet and then had a competition to see which group could get their balloon jet to fly the greatest distance along the string.
Congratulations to Isaac, Anna and David for being the first team to fly their balloon all the way along the string! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
