Term 1

FOREST SCHOOL

P7H showed their skills of completing transient art work in the forest. They were asked to work in groups to make some inventions. We all then had to guess which invention was which. Our favourite one was the motorbike- can you guess which one it is?

BATTLESHIPS

We have just completed our Shape and Space topic of translating, reflecting and rotating co-ordinates in the four quadrants. To give us more practise using co-ordinates we all really enjoyed a game of ‘Battleships’. Tillie was the first person to sink all of her partner’s ships- well done Tillie! 👏🏻👏🏻

POETRY- TED HUGHES

THE WOODPECKER

P7H pupils have recently been studying the poetry of Ted Hughes. Today we were learning about a poem called ‘The Woodpecker’. We worked in groups to make up questions for each other to answer about the poem. Following that we assessed how good each group’s questions were.

WAU and ICT

As part of our WAU topic about Victorian Times P7H completed tasks using a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The task was linked to calculating the wages of servants who worked in the ‘Big House’. We all realised how useful a spreadsheet can be at calculating things for us very quickly!

P7 VICTORIAN DAY

The Primary Seven pupils really enjoyed their Victorian Day organised by the Active Learning Company. The pupils dressed up had had the opportunity to learn more about what live was like in Victorian Times by taking part in lots of activities. This included quizzes, playing games, participating in Victorian art and craft work and writing with a dip pen and ink. The day finished with the pupils working in groups to make an animation about a coal mine disaster using the ‘Stop Motion’ app on the iPads.

HEALTH AND WELL BEING WEEK

P7H enjoyed some interesting and exciting activities when they participated in Health and Well Being Week. This included making cards for people in the local community, taking part in exercise classes, learning about safe use of the internet, visiting the Forest where they had the opportunity to toast bread, build dens and whittle sticks and finally to take part in a colour run!

FOREST SCHOOL

What a great way to spend a Friday afternoon when the weather is good! The pupils spent time in the Forest gathering a selection of colourful, natural items. Back in the classroom they made transient pictures and photographed them using the Kaleidocam app on the iPad. I’m sure you’ll agree the children had amazing results!

ICT

Pupils really enjoyed learning how to develop their coding skills in ICT when they used micro-bits. We are hoping to continue to develop these skills in

Term 1.

AMAZING INVENTIONS

As part of our work in Literacy, P7H were looking at how some inventions have changed our lives. The pupils worked in groups to think of an invention and then act out what life was like before and after their particular invention became popular. We all had great fun trying to guess what each group’s invention was! Can you work them out?

MENTAL MATHS GAMES

Who will be the winner of our mental maths game of adding several two digit numbers?

‘CONSCIENCE ALLEY’- OLIVER!

After a debate featuring ‘Conscience Alley’ pupils worked in pairs to consider the pros and cons of Oliver from the book by Charles Dickens asking for more food.

PLACE VALUE

The pupils in P7H use number generators to revising mentally adding and subtracting numbers up to one million.

PLACE VALUE

P7H revise writing numbers up to ten million. Everyone did really well!
