Numeracy: Heavy and light! We have been looking at practical measures and Daniel brought in his set of scales from home to show and tell the rest of the call. We loved experimenting with the numbers to make them even and ensuring the scales were balanced!
Sentinus: Building and problem solving using ‘The Three Little Pigs’
ICT/Literacy - We worked in pairs to build a house and used the iPads independently to take a picture of our house. We were able to air print these from our iPads and finally together we wrote a sentence! Lots of steps involved today.
Literacy: We made paper aeroplanes and practised our ‘n’ formation on the side. When we flew them we made the ‘nnnnnnnn’ sound

ICT/Learning Through Play: Computational Thinking and Coding - We made our indi travel along a route to school! Some of us decided to use Duplo to outline his path and others went to the writing area and created a sign that said “school”.

Literacy: The sound snatcher is in Richhill 🫣 he likes to steal the sound ‘s’. We hid our sounds around the classroom!
Numeracy: We can order our numicon and write the correct numeral to match.
ICT: We love programming our new Indi’s in P1.

Literacy: Messy, muddy m’s!
Literacy/Forest School: We have been learning about the farm to fork process and what we get from each animal. We have been learning a lot about pigs and so we cooked sausages on the camp fire in Forest School.
Numeracy: We made squares and rectangles using lollipop sticks!
Literacy: An apple a day keeps the doctor away! Well… P1 decided to make an apple crumble with some bramley apples. We tasted a little slice of one and decided they were VERY sour. This was a lovely way to finish our very busy and fun filled Farm Topic, we loved learning about apples and orchards. We read ‘An Apple A Day’ by Liz Weir which is a fantastic book about Amy and Paul’s Apple Farm Co. Armagh. After all, Co. Armagh is known as ‘The Orchard County’. 🍏 Our crumble was that tasty, Mrs Erskine forgot the get a picture of the end product. 😋
We also had a fantastic visit from Mrs Cartmill, she is a very accomplished Apple Farmer. We learnt so much about apples and their lifecycle!

Literacy/WAU: Mrs Erskine brought in two piglets from her family farm. Peppa and George are only two weeks old and were very well behaved on their big trip out to Richhill. We now know that a mother pig is called a sow, a father pig is called a boar and a baby pig is called a piglet. P1 asked lots of brilliant questions, such as “What do pigs eat?”, “Do you have to cut a pigs hair?”, “Where do they sleep?”.
WAU/Forest School: Later in the week we cooked sausages in Forest School. These are scrumptious! We learnt how to be safe around fires.
Literacy/Forest School: We read a non-fiction book all about Autumn. We then collected the fallen leaves and made leaf necklaces to work on our fine motor skills 🍁🌿🍂

Health and Wellbeing Week (Mental Health Awareness Day): We all wore something yellow today to support and raise money for REACH charity. As a whole class we had some time to listen to music and doodle. We LOVED this activity! Mrs Erskine even had some lovely instrumental background music playing 🎶 ✏️

Numeracy - Positional Language
Literacy/WAU - We read ‘The Leaf Man’ and made our very own leaf man in Forest School today!
Literacy/WAU - THE TRACTORS HAVE ARRIVED! 🚜 A huge thank you to Burkes of Cornascriebe Ltd for taking two fantastic New Holland tractors out to our school. We loved having a look inside. Mrs Erskine turned one on, we got very excited. Thank you again!
Numeracy: (Practical Measures) We took Numeracy into Forest School and we read the story ‘Little Lion Lost!’ After, we looked for tall, small, thick, thin, big and small objects 🌿🌲
Literacy/WAU - Freddie brought in his favourite hen for everyone in the class to see - she was beautiful! 🐔 We asked Freddie lots of questions about hens. We made scrambled eggs with the eggs the hen left us, it was delicious.
Numeracy - We took advantage of the lovely September weather and practised our number 3’s in the Outdoor Area. We use the rhyme “round and round like a busy bee, that’s how we make a number three!”.
Literacy - We followed a recipe to make bread like The Little Red Hen did in our story this week. It was scrumptious! Mrs Marks let us cook it in her oven, we enjoyed getting down to the Nursery to see if it was ready 🍞 😋
WAU - We have been learning about sheep this week. Christopher was very kind and brought in Gertrude and Glenda to see P1 this week.
