Term 1

STEM

After looking at some of the work of Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, P7H were given the challenge of building a bridge 40cm long which would hold a weight of at least 500g. The pupils all worked well in their groups with each person assuming a different role- manager, timekeeper, reporter and resource organiser. We learnt the importance of working with others to be creative and solve problems. Everyone also realised that a triangle or ‘X’ can be used to strengthen structures.
All the groups in P7H successfully completed the task and each bridge held 3.4kg (3400g) without collapsing!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

CLASS DEBATE

P7H prepare for their class debate, ‘THE INTERNET HAS MADE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE’, by working in pairs to list the pros and cons of the invention of the World Wide Web.

SEPTEMBER PRIZE WINNERS

STEM

Planning for our STEM challenge ‘Build a bridge 40cm long which will hold a weight of 500g’.
Before joining our groups to plan our designs we looked at the work of Victorian engineer and designer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. We also looked at different types of bridges and classified them into groups.

REVISING PLACE VALUE UP TO TWO DECIMAL PLACES.

HOT SEATING

Our WAU topic this half term is ‘Victorian Times’ so we thought that we would put our very own ‘Queen Victoria’ in the hot seat and ask him/her some questions about their life! We worked in pairs to think of some good questions to ask.

AMAZING INVENTIONS!

As part of our work in Literacy we have been looking at ‘Amazing Inventions’ over the years from the wheel to the car and even penicillin. The boys and girls in our class worked in groups to chose an invention and then act out what life was without and with the invention. Can you guess which inventions they chose?

The boys and girls enjoyed using a number generators to help them understand place value up to two decimal places.

VICTORIAN HOUSES

We watched Newsdesk videos and made notes to compare and contrast the homes of the rich and the poor in Victorian Times.

OUR KALEIDACAM DESIGNS

FOREST SCHOOL FUN!

We had a great time in the Forest collecting natural items to make designs using the KaleidaCam app on our iPads. We also had some free time too to explore all the features of our new Forest school!

🏫 VICTORIAN SCHOOLS 🏫

P7H watched a Newsdesk video about what it was like for poor children to attend a Primary School in Victorian Times. We used our group roles to note and report back things that were different in Victorian schools compared to schools today. We all agreed that the teachers were very strict and that the punishments were harsh!

CONSCIENCE ALLEY

After reading an extract from Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, the pupils in P7H took part in ‘Conscience Alley’. Each group put forward pros and cons to try and convince our very own Oliver if ‘she’ should ask the Master of the workhouse for more food.

VICTORIAN CHILDREN

We worked in groups to study photographs of Victorian Children. We learnt that photographs are a primary source of evidence. In our groups each person had a different role or job to do- Manager, Timekeeper, Scribe and Reporter. The scribes recorded all of our thoughts around the photographs before reporting what we found out back to the class.

ICT

We have enjoyed using Adobe Express in our recent sessions in the Computer Suite to create posters about Queen Victoria. We found out lots of interesting facts and opinions about her!

🌻 OUR SUNFLOWERS 🌻

🌻 VINCENT VAN GOGH’S SUNFLOWERS 🌻

In Primary Seven we look at some of the art work of Van Gogh. We learnt about his life and his style of painting before looking at his ‘Sunflower’ paintings. We used chalk to draw some sunflowers of our own.

Revising Place Value

⭐️ WELCOME TO P7H! ⭐️
