A huge thank you to Deborah from ‘Thrive Academy’. She was able to very helpfully talk to us about online safety. Different things we need to look out for and how we can be safe online.
World Kindness Day! ✨🩵🌸🤝🏼
Some of the girls in P7B helped decorate the mural on the P6 mobile. They did a great job! We got to pose and put the ‘i’ in ‘Be Kind’.
Forest School 🍁
In Forest School, we worked in groups, picking our favorite invention and designing it using different resources such as leaves, twigs or flowers. Some groups picked to design a lightbulb while others opted for a steam engine.
Remembrance Day ♥️
We had the pleasure of walking around the beautifully decorated St. Matthew’s Church for the ‘No Greater Love’ exhibition.
Anti-Bullying Week👧🏼🧑🏽
This week was Anti-Bullying Week and P7B kickstarted Monday morning with assembly for KS1 and KS2. We looked at different characters who have used their ‘power for good’ and how we can do the same. We had a range from real life people such as Florence Nightingale to Superheroes such as Spiderman! 👩🏼⚕️🦸🏻 Monday wasalso odd sock day to celebrate everyone’s unique qualities. After our big morning we enjoyed a well earned, sweet treat.🧁
Numeracy🔷⚪️🟪
We turned our tables into 4 quadrant grids and reflected different shapes across the y and x-axis. We recorded the co-ordinates of the vertices on whiteboards and identified different patterns.
Literacy✏️
In Literacy, we have been covering poetry. Most recently a poem called ‘Woodpecker’ by Ted Hughes. We were able to understand and identify key features of the poem. We then thought of different questions to ask the poet, Ted Hughes. Different pupils took on the hot seat to answer our questions.
✨💡DITCH THE DARK DAY💡✨
👷🏼♂️STEM👷🏼♀️
P7 have been looking at different bridges in real life and elements that make them very strong. We planned our own bridge design in groups, before attempting to build them using a variety of resources. To finish, we put our bridges to the test, seeing which design was the strongest.
Numeracy🔢
We wrote subtraction sums for our partner, working with numbers to 2 decimal places. We had to calculate our answers mentally before passing our work back for our partner for them to check.
Literacy✏️
‘The Internet has Made the World a Better Place’
We had a very interesting class debate on the above statement. Half of the class argued ‘against’ while the other half argued ‘for.’
September Celebration Assembly Awards
Well done to all our September winners! Very deserving winners!
Literacy✏️
We were looking at different types of inventions again and what category they fall into. The category could have been transportation or an electrical invention, for example. We worked in groups to colour code each item before thinking of our own ideas.
Numeracy🔢
We have been working hard revising our number work and understanding the value of each digit, particularly the digits after a decimal point. One of our activities included getting a number and putting them in order from smallest to largest around the classroom.
ICT💻
In the computer suite we watched two videos and made notes, comparing and contrasting the houses of a wealthy and poor Victorian. We know which house we would pick if we had the choice!
Literacy✏️
P7B take on the Hot Seat! With all the research we have gathered on Queen Victoria, it was time to put it to use. As a class we prepared questions for ‘Queen Victoria’ and then posed these questions to a few willing participants.
Drama🎭
Over the years we have had lots of ‘Amazing Inventions.’ Some of these inventions include the first steam train, penicillin, technology and electricity. P7 looked at how they impact our lives today and the way we live. In groups, we acted out what life would look like without, and then with the invention. Can you guess what inventions we are acting out?
Primary 7 enjoying PE 🏃♂️
ICT Suite💻
In the ICT Suite we have been continuing with our ‘Victorians’ WAU topic. In pairs, everyone had to create a poster to record a set of facts and opinions on Queen Victoria, using Adobe Express.
Numeracy🔢
Primary 7 have been working on mental maths skills. We were considering the different possible methods to complete a sum, and what way we found easiest.
Forest School🌳
We went to Forest School and collected a variety of natural resources such as leaves, twigs and small flowers. We came inside and used an app called ‘KaleidaCam’ on the iPads to capture a variety of designs, through various different arrangements.
Literacy✏️
We have been looking at the author Charles Dickens and the famous extract from ‘Oliver Twist’ where Oliver asks for more food. One half of the class argued that Oliver should have asked for more food, while the remainder argued that he should not have asked for more food. We took time thinking and discussing our arguments before presenting them and taking part in a ‘conscience alley’.
World Around Us🌍
In our WAU topic ‘Victorians’, we considered children of that time and the jobs they unfortunately had to do. Every group was provided with a different picture. They had to use the details in the picture to guess the job and present their ideas to the class, before finding out if they were correct.
Art🌻
Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch painter in the late 1800s known for his bright colourful paintings. We looked into his life and some of his artwork, specifically his ‘Sunflower’ painting. We used chalk to recreate our own.
Forest School🌳
Over the summer, there were lots of upgrades made to our Forest School. Primary 7 had a great time exploring!
Literacy ✏️
We thought back to our summer holidays and designed our very own postcard! We picked a location to write from, looked carefully at the style of writing and drew a picture.
