Term 1

Activity Based Learning

We’ve been exploring our World War II topic through exciting, hands-on activities! From creative challenges to problem-solving tasks, activity-based play has helped us discover what life was like during this fascinating period in history.

Celebration Assembly

Well done to our November winners πŸŒŸπŸ‘

Forest School/Numeracy

To help us improve our multiplication skills, we headed into the forest! Using natural resources, we created arrays and recorded our calculations. It was a fun and hands-on way to learn! πŸπŸƒβœ–οΈ

World Around Us

As part of our Marvellous Me topic, we carried out a smell investigation! We put our noses to the test to identify lots of different scents. Some were sweet, some were fresh… and one was VERY strong! The garlic smell lingered in our classroom for days πŸ‘ƒπŸ§„πŸ€£

Numeracy

We’ve been learning all about money in numeracy. Through fun games, we practised recognising coins, making different amounts and working out the correct change. It’s been a fantastic way to build our confidence with money! πŸ’·πŸ’°

Roots of Empathy

We were so excited to welcome baby Penny back to P4B! We loved seeing her smile as we sang her songs. We watched in suspense as she almost learnt to roll over right in front of us! The next day, we were thrilled to receive a video from Mr Smyth showing Penny had mastered the roll all by herself—what a superstar πŸŒŸπŸ‘ΆπŸΌ

Celebration Assembly

Well done to our October winners πŸŒŸπŸ‘ Looking great for Ditch the Dark Day!

Forest School/WAU

As part of our Marvellous Me topic, we’ve been learning all about our senses. We had a fantastic time in the forest on a senses hunt, exploring sights, sounds and smells all around us πŸŒ³πŸ‘ƒπŸ‘€πŸ‘‚

Numeracy

We explored subtraction with decomposition using dienes! It was a fun challenge and we became super speedy at solving calculations πŸ”’

STEM Investigation
As part of our Marvellous Me topic, we have been learning all about our amazing bodies. This week, we focused on our lungs and carried out a fun STEM investigation to measure our lung capacity. Using water, bottles, straws and measuring jugs, we tested how much air we could blow out in one big breath! Before the experiment, we made predictions about our lung capacity, then compared our results to see whose lungs held the most air. It was a brilliant hands-on way to learn more about how our bodies work! 🌬️🫁

ICT

This week, we used Scratch Jr to learn how to code and create our own animations. We explored how to make characters move using different code blocks. It was exciting to experiment with commands and see our ideas come to life on the screen! We worked together to solve problems, be creative and design our very own short animations πŸ’»βœ¨

Maths Week

We celebrated Maths Week with outdoor numeracy fun! We took our learning to the forest and explore numbers in exciting ways. We worked together to order numbers, make number bonds, tally and collect data, and even interpret it too! One of our favourite activities was playing Target Toss and writing addition calculations based on our scores. We had a brilliant time learning through play and teamwork πŸŒ³πŸ”’

Literacy

To help us learn how to write clear instructions, we made Top Hats. We followed each step carefully and then wrote our own instructions to show how it’s done. It was a fun and tasty way to learn about sequencing and instructional writing. At the end of the day, we even got to enjoy our delicious creations! 🧁🍫

Grandparents Day!
What a wonderful day welcoming our grandparents to our classroom! We loved sharing everything we’ve been learning about our skeleton and the human body as part of our Marvellous Me topic πŸ’€β€οΈ

Music
We’ve been very eager to start learning the recorder in P4! Everyone has shown great enthusiasm as we practise our first notes, and we’re sure our families will love hearing us play at home πŸ˜‚πŸŽ΅

Art

Our clay portraits came to life this week as we carefully painted and added the finishing touches. The classroom was filled with concentration, creativity and excitement! We were delighted with our unique creations and proud to take them home to show our families πŸŽ¨πŸ§‘‍🎨

Celebration Assembly

Well done to our September winners πŸŒŸπŸ‘

Forest School/Numeracy
We had such a brilliant day at Forest School today. Our challenge was to use things we found in the forest to make Carroll diagrams. First we practised with a template, then we worked hard to create our own diagram out of natural resources. Afterwards, we enjoyed some free time to play and explore. What a great mix of learning and fun in the outdoors! 🌿🌟

Roots of Empathy

We have been eagerly counting down the days to meet our Roots of Empathy baby. Everyone was so excited to welcome Baby Penny. We can’t wait to watch her learn and grow throughout the year πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ

Forest School/PDMU

As part of our topic Marvellous Me, we explored our likes and interests in the forest. We created love hearts from natural materials, shared what we love, and learned the importance of respecting different opinions β€οΈπŸƒπŸͺΎ

Art
Our clay self-portraits are taking shape! We’ve been practising techniques such as scoring, slipping and sticking. We’re looking forward to bringing them to life with some paint πŸ—ΏπŸŽ¨

Numeracy

We had fun working with partners and using Base Ten cubes to strengthen our understanding of place value and 2-digit addition βž•πŸ”’πŸŸ°

Forest School

Our new forest school area sparked lots of excitement! We loved exploring outdoors and even enjoyed a pre-lunch treat - crisp apples picked straight from the trees 🌳🍎
