Term 2

Literacy / WAU - The Jolly Postman has arrived at Little Red’s Cottage this week. Unfortunately, Primary 1 arrived into school on Tuesday to find their Grandma’s Cottage had been broken into. The wolf left behind some big paw prints and a piece of fur. The police sent Primary 1 a letter to explain they need our help to find the wolf. We made WANTED Posters to help the PSNI! Later in the week, we re-designed a cape for Little Red Riding Hood so that the wolf wouldn’t be able to find her. We also looked at different materials in the water tray that would best suit a cape e.g. waterproof etc.

Literacy / Forest School - We made dens for Little Red Riding Hood to hide in to protect herself from the wolf. We created signs to keep the wolf out!

Mrs H pretended to be our wolf! 🐺

Literacy / Forest School: The Fairy God Mother sent P1 a letter today and it was delivered to Forest School. We found out that she had misplaced her wand, we used sticks, peelers and string to make magical wands for her! 🌟 We then practised our spells, you will find some of them below:

“Bipity Bopoty Boo”, “Ziggity Zog Zag”.

Numeracy - Practical Measures. Primary 1 have been investigating capacity and using our water tray, we filled cups of water. Mrs Erskine asked us “What do you notice?”, “What happens if you change the size of your cups?”, “What do you notice when you use a thin, tall, short or wide cup?”.

Literacy/WAU/Science Week - We have been looking at one of our favourite fairytale stories this week. Can you guess what it is by looking at our pictures? Primary 1 arrived into school during the week to find a beanstalk, a letter and a pair of boots stuck in the roof tiles. We read the letter together and discovered that we had lots of tasks to complete! As part of Science Week, the giant left us a letter to ask us to investigate and predict what would happen with the magic beans, we took the beans and planted them in Forest school. We now know that we need water, nutrients, light and air for our beans to grow 🌱 .

Investigating and predicting with our magic beans! 🫘

Numeracy / Forest School : Miss Grant got a letter from The Jolly Postman, he said in his letter that the parcels in his van keep rolling over. He left Miss Grant a bag of parcels, we talked about the 3D names of these shapes and decided if they could roll or not. We decided to send a letter back to The Jolly Postman and to tell him that he needs to keep the cylinder and the cone of the flat ends so they don’t roll over anymore 📦

Literacy/World Book Day: Mrs McCready came into P1 to read a story to us for World Book Day. Mrs McCready was once the Primary 1 teacher in Hardy. Mrs Erskine definitely loved having Mrs McCready in her classroom, she learnt a thing or two 😜

Literacy - We made kites, practised our letter ‘k’ formation, predicted and tested them to see if they would fly!

Literacy/Numeracy/WAU/PE - P1 heard the RTE news message about ‘walking like penguins’, we found this very interesting as our new topic is all about ‘Cold Lands’. We practised waddling like penguins in PE, we even tested our waddling in the snow ❄️ we can confirm there were ZERO slips! It was very cold outside and so we pretended to huddle like penguins and say our penguin poem. Finally, we used our penguins for the composition of 6, we made lots of different combinations. Check out our numeral 6 formations in the snow!

Learning Through Play/Numeracy - We are loving our new additions to our numeracy area. After ‘Maths Week’ and time spent in Numeracy on practical measures, Daniel brought in a set of scales for show and tell. P1E were fascinated with the scales, so as a class we asked Mrs Erskine for a set of scales for our play! Mrs Erskine bought us these for our class Christmas present. We love using the scales and practically measuring out different items. We can also use this to consolidate our number bonds!
