TERM 2
SCIENCE WEEK
During ‘Science Week’ we looked at the concept of floating and sinking, linked to our WAU Titanic topic. Each team had to design and make a tinfoil boat. We then held a competition to see which boat could hold the most pennies.

TITANIC TRIP
We had a fantastic time at the Titanic Centre, Belfast. We got to visit the SS Nomadic, have a full, guided tour of ‘The Titanic Experience’, explore the slipways and finally a quick trip to the gift shop.

SHROVE TUESDAY
We enjoyed homemade pancakes with a variety of different toppings.

ALAN PEAT’S EXCITING SENTENCES
We revised our work on some of Alan Peat’s Exciting Sentences in relation to part of our work on Titanic. We worked in groups to sort: simile sentences, 2A sentences, two pair sentences and De:De sentences about the exterior of Titanic before writing some of our own about Titanic’s first class accommodation and facilities.

INTERNET SAFETY DAY- ‘Too Good To Be True’.
We looked at different examples of scams on the internet before design our own ‘scam poster’ to warm people how easy it is to believe in things that are really ‘too good to be true’.

WAU- ENERGY
P7H investigated transferring air from balloons and syringes along tubes.

STEM
P7H welcomed James Conor from Sentinus to help them with their STEM Science project on ‘Energy’. They had a great morning working to make balloon buggies and electrically powered cars. They even enjoyed a few races along the school corridor!! 🚗 😀

KEEPING FIT IN THE FOREST
P7H decided that it would be a great idea to try to get fit in the New Year so they headed to the forest to design and make some exercise equipment! Everyone enjoyed trying out each other designs.

HOT SEATING BLUE WOLF AND AFRICA
As part of our work in Literacy about the novel ‘Eye of the Wolf’ we worked in groups to think of and ask questions to two of the main characters Blue Wolf and Africa.
PRACTICAL WORK IN MEASURE
To improve our measuring skills we worked in teams to find out the perimeter of different shapes and also measured the angles in each shape using a protractor.

🎈 DESIGNING AND MAKING BALLOON JETS 🎈

MEASURING UP!
The world record for the long jump was set on the 30-8-91 by Mike Powell at 8.95m. We worked together to estimate and then measure how many of our standing long jumps it would take to equal or pass 8.95m. The least number of jumps was 5! We all enjoyed trying to equal Mike Powell’s record! 🥇

EXCITING SENTENCES
We are using Alan Peat’s Exciting Sentences to improve our writing. Today we were learning to write ‘Two Pair Sentences’ using adjectives. We all enjoyed trying to think of adjectives to describe different environments. Everyone enjoyed doing this carousel activity and worked in groups to write amazing adjectives.

🐺 EYE OF THE WOLF 🐺
Our current work in Literacy is based on the novel ‘Eye of the Wolf’ by Daniel Pennac. This week we worked in groups to plan a role play based on how the wolves were seen in the eyes of the hunters.
CIRCLE PATTERNS
We learnt how to use compasses in our maths work and used our new skill to make some circle patterns.

TERRIFIC TANGRAMS
We had to put our thinking caps on to solve some puzzles making animals using shapes from a 7 piece tangram.
