Term Two
Morning class: We had an amazing day at college Farm Nursery School! Our theme was Easter and we enjoyed lovely play in the classroom painting and decorating eggs, and outside where we went on an egg hunt and did some Easter themed gross motor activities. We are so happy with how the children are building friendships with each other!

Science week! We have had a busy week: we visited the Gadget shop and bought some cool things; we made a water run; we planted beans with our friends from College Farm Nursery; we explored the light panel and overlays; we made magic potions and made great patterns using the droppers; we planted some Spring bedding plants! Phew! What a busy week!
Shared Education. It was lovely to welcome our friends from College Farm Nursery school back again today to Hardy Memorial. The theme for our play today was Spring and growing. We enjoyed hearing the story of Jack and the Beanstalk down at Forest School, then we each planted our own bean so we can grow a beanstalk too! The boys and girls then enjoyed some free time in the forest area: it was fantastic to see the children grow in confidence with each other and build on the friendships that have been made in previous visits. Thank you to the mums who came to help, today, too! We look forward to our visit to College Farm next month!
We had a visit from Grace, who is an optician in Specsavers in Portadown. She told the boys and girls about what happens when you have an eye test. She told us to look after our eyes by eating lots of fruit and vegetables, playing outdoors as much as possible and wearing sunglasses in bright sunlight. She told the afternoon class that they should get their eyes tested every year, and it doesn’t cost any money! Grace told us a story of when Peppa Pig got her eyes tested. Everyone loved trying on the test frames.
We had a visit from Grace, the optician, who works in Specsavers. She told all the boys and girls in the morning class about what happens when you go for an eye test. You look at different pictures and might have to wear funny glasses while the optician checks your eyes. She told us that we should play outside as much as we can, eat lots of fruit and vegetables and wear sunglasses in very bright sunlight. Everyone should get their eyes tested every year. Best of all, it’s free! Grace read us a story about Peppa getting her eyes tested. The boys and girls enjoyed trying on the test frames!
Mrs McNally loved dancing along to our Lollipop Person song!

Both classes enjoyed the visit from Mrs McNally, our school lollipop lady. We learned that the word on her lollipop sign is STOP, and she uses her sign to get the traffic to stop so that the children can cross the road safely. She wears her hi-vis clothing so that she can be seen easily by the drivers. We also learned that she is a trusted adult who is always available to help the boys and girls as they grow up and move through the school.
The PM class had great fun trying out some Chinese Dragon dancing! Thanks, Mrs O’Neill!

In honour of Mrs O’Neill’s Chinese heritage we celebrated Chinese New Year. We practised our fine motor skills with a woolly noodle activity in the house corner, we practised our pencil grip with Chinese writing at the art area and we practised our scissor skills making Chinese lanterns. We enjoyed prawn crackers for snack. In China the boys and girls receive money for Chinese New Year so our boys and girls had some yummy golden coins made from chocolate. We heard the story of Chinese New Year and watched a dragon dance on the big screen. To finish our celebrations Mrs O’Neill led the children in our very own dragon dance! The afternoon class had terrific fun!
Look at our AM class doing their dragon dance with Mrs O’Neill! It was great fun!
