  • Pyjama Day for FND Matters NI

    Mon 31 Jan 2022

🚨 Charity Pyjama Day - FND Matters NI 🚨

On Friday 11th February, we will hold a charity Pyjama Day in aid of FND Matters NI.

Children are encouraged to come to school in their PJs and make a donation to an extremely worthwhile cause.

FND Matters NI is a local charity which aims to raise awareness of Functional Neurological Disorder throughout Northern Ireland. As a school, we were upset to hear of the life-changing struggles Erin Wall, former pupil and sister of current P7 Lewis, has had to deal with in recent years as a result of the rare condition.

I’ve attached an article below in which Erin and her mother outline in detail the symptoms she and her family go through on an almost daily basis, some of which include regular seizures which can result in temporary partial or complete paralysis. Unfortunately because FND is so rare, there is currently no treatment path available to Erin and the few others who suffer from the disorder.

I’d encourage all families to take the time to read the article and donate generously if at all possible.

Congratulations to our Monthly Certificate Award winners!

  • Congratulations Thomas!!

    Mon 29 Nov 2021

Congratulations once again to Thomas Ferris. Thomas' stamp design has now progressed through to the grand final which will be judged in Feb 2022 by Prince Charles. He is now one of two winners in NI. This is an absolutely outstanding achievemnent for our P4 pupil. In this round the judging panel consisted of:

    • The Prime Minister, Rt Hon Boris Johnson MP
    • Family of Captain Sir Tom Moore - his daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore and grandchildren, Benjie and Georgia
    • Baroness Floella Benjamin
    • Simon Thompson, CEO, Royal Mail

We are also delighted that the other winner from NI has a connection to our school. Mrs A Smith works in St Patrick's PS and has been a close colleague of Mrs McClughan in our Shared Education Partnership. Her daughter's stamp design was also chosen. Well done to Grace!

  • Remembrance Day Service and Special Service for Private Jack McCoo

    Thu 11 Nov 2021

Remembrance Day is always a special day at Hardy Memorial PS. A special thankyou to the boys and girls in the Pupil Council who attended the service at the Cenotaph and laid a wreath on belhalf of the school. As always we are very proud of our pupils.

Today a Special Commemoration then took place at our school - The Re-Dedication of a Tree planted in our grounds in memory of Private Jack McCoo by Jack's sister Mrs Kathleen Neville.

Jack was one of four brothers who served during WWII. He joined the 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Rifles 19 Platoon - D Company.  Jack's platoon landed in Normandy at roughly 9pm on on the evening of D Day 6 June 1944. in Horsa Gliders which landed on Landing Zone N to the North of Pegasus Bridge. Sadly Jack was killed while on a patrol sweeping the woods on 13 June. He is buried in Ranville Cemetary. On his grave it states he was 21 yrs old however he had lied about his age to join and was actually only 19 when he died.

The plaque will serve as a reminder to the Hardy Memorial and wider Richhill community of the sacrifice made by Jack and many like him. We are very priviledged that it is present on the tree in our school grounds.

A special thankyou to Mrs Neville, Mr Kyle Quinn, Mr Jackie and Gary McCoo, Rev Carlton Baxter and all those who played a special part in making today happen.
